Pure Orchestral Centre

was founded and established in 1997 by Ringo CHAN, a professional music educator of Canadian background,specialising in the area of instrumental and ensemble pedagogy.

Under the leadership of Mr. Chan, the current teaching team of PURE consists of over 20 professional music instructors and an administration team.

Over years, PURE has become a leading music educational institution in Hong Kong, enjoys wide recognitions from both the local and international school sectors, private enterprise as well as parents and students from its own music community.

The goal of PURE is to instil a holistic music education experience to all students throughout the time they spent at PURE. The goal is achieved through attainment of a number of objectives. They are:

Our instrumental, ensemble and music theory programmes are unique in Hong Kong. Perception on the model of North American music education with reference to the curriculum structure set forth by the School of Music of the University of British Columbia. PURE develops its own music programmes that excel all the essences and merits of the North American music education model while modulating to meet the requirements for local music education demands.

Cooperation with Schools

The acquisition of music knowledge, both in terms of practical and theoretical, have become increasingly crucial nowadays. The success of delivering an effective curriculum model that provides the students with maximum benefits and functional knowledge based musical interest requires the collaboration of quality educators and school sectors in Hong Kong. Therefore we deeply regard working in partnership with school sectors as core to the success of what we are doing. Over years, we have been working closely with a large number of local and international schools in Hong Kong, both primary and secondary.

Instrumental & Theory Courses

PURE offers a whole array of instrumental, theory & musicianship, music appreciation and musicianship courses which run throughout the year. Instrumental courses include: piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. As well, theory & musicianship courses are also offered concurrently with the above instrumental courses. Courses can take the form of private or group instruction. In addition, we assist our schools in developing and expanding the above courses under the ECA environment. In some cases, we play the role of a consultant to give advice and suggestions for the curriculum parts development.

Ensemble

PURE takes pride in its ensemble programmes in which they provide opportunities for students to make music together, experience teamwork, enhance self-esteem and elevate personal confidence through wide varieties of performances. PURE ensembles include a symphony orchestra, a symphonic wind ensemble, a string orchestra, a flute choir, a clarinet choir, a brass choir, a percussion ensemble, a choral ensemble and a variety of chamber ensembles which are made up of different instrumental combinations.

Facilities

Conveniently located at the heart of both Wanchai & Causeway Bay districts. PURE occupies a space of more than 1300 sq ft which include six spacious practice rooms and studios, a comprehensive music library and an examination centre for the Associated Board of Royal School of Music.

Affiliation

Since 2002, PURE has become the official home of the world-renowned UBC Summer Music Institute, Vancouver, Canada in Hong Kong. In addition, as a result of its growing reputation both locally and internationally, it has attracted a number of renowned organizations and artists to begin an affiliation that allows a higher level of professional and musical advancement and exchange of information on music education at an international level.
